AHS PTSO NEWSLETTER
SCHOOL YEAR 2009 - 2010

A Message From the Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO)
It is hard to believe it is a start of a brand new school year.  For students there is the excitement of a new year and getting that much closer to graduation.  For parents it is a time where your student is gaining independence and you are feeling out of the loop.  For teachers it is the challenge of teaching the curriculum to all their students while informing parents of needed information.

As Alexander's PTSO we try to be a bridge between parent, teacher, and students.  There are so many requirements that students have to complete for graduation.  From graduation tests to assemblies.  In order to be better prepared for these events we try to keep students and parents informed.  We will post a monthly newsletter on the website and forward a copy via email to your child's teacher.  The teacher will hopefully have your email address and will forward it on to you.

AHS PTSO Membership
The PTSO will have a membership table set up on July 30, 2009 at the Freshman Fiesta and also on August 4, 2009 at the AHS Open House.  Please find our table and join the PTSO.  Membership is only $5.00.  With the monies collected from membership and fund raising we have been able to support academic departments and school clubs.  Their needs we have been able to meet have ranged from classroom books to further education of our teachers to incentive programs for our students.  With state and local budget cuts there is more of a need for booster clubs and PTSO.  When you join the AHS PTSO we will get your email address from you.  Every month or if something special comes up you will receive an email.  We will take extra care to pass information to you and if you have any requests or questions please feel free to reply and we will help you out in any way.

AHS PTSO Hospitality
During the school year the PTSO feed the teachers.  For example on Febuary 4, 2010 there is an Open House from 5pm - 7pm.  The teachers do not have time to leave the school before parents come to meet them therefore, the PTSO provides them dinner.  There are 3 other times we feed them.  During these times we first ask for donations.  We have a small budget set aside for these occassions but donations are our preference.  The more donations we receive the less money from budget we use and the more the departments and clubs get to be supported.  We will email a list of things needed for donation and if you could please help it would greatly be appreciated.  If you know any businesses that can provide any donations please let us know.

Message From PTSO President
Our PTSO Board consist mainly of senior parents.  Because of this we are in need of volunteers to take a seat on the board.  The board meets on average of 6 times during the year.  We have 2 fundraisers which are the Dress Code Fashion Show and the Volleyball Game with the Teachers against the Students.  We feed the teachers 4 times during the school as well.  If you would like to sit in on board meetings to see if it is something you could do please feel free to attend.  You may contact me by phone or email.  (770)815-7144
