Bio

I was born in El Salvador and raised in Costa Rica.  I came to the US to receive an education, but I decided to stay. My first trip to the U.S. as a student was in the school year of 1983-1984, when I attended Douglas County High School as an exchange student.  I received my second high school diploma from DC because in Costa Rica we graduate after the 11th grade. Yes, I graduated twice.  I then received my bachelor, master, and doctorate degrees in education from the University of West Georgia.

I live with my wife, Gail, who is also a teacher. We have three wonderful children: Cruz (16), Chynna (20), and Chance (26). Cruz attends Carrollton HS and Chynna goes to the University of West Georgia. Chance is a Juris Doctor candidate at the University of South Carolina.

I hold a United States Soccer Federation B License and I took over the men's soccer team at Alexander in 2013.  Previously, I had been the head soccer coach (1993-1997), but resigned to spend more time with my family and continue my education.  I came back as an assistant in 2006.  My record as the head coach between 1993-1997 was 44-19-1. Our soccer team frequently qualifes for the state tournament. In 2013 the team finished with a 13-5 record and an elite 8 appearance.  My overall record is 87-67-5.
